Hey Carrie - I loved your posting! At first I thought you were writing about the Aries crowd!!!!! There is a band called the Dark Star Orchestra (DSO) that recreates Grateful Dead shows in their entirety. They do an amazing job and sound "just like the Dead". Check out their website and listen a bit, you actually believe it's Jerry and the boys playing. They are going to be in Seattle May 15th at the Showbox - bring some friends down and come play with us. Nappy and I are going, I think Hare is in, and various other Deadheads! I went to see them in Seattle when Moosie was still with us, (I think Bender stayed with him that night....yeah, thats right, when I got their the next morning the recycble bin was full!!!)Anyhow,I played the tape of the show for your dad and he was shocked it wasn't Jerry!

Sorry RG - it's the late winter doldrums of work and repairing the property from the winter. Was a hard winter, or the property was weak, or maybe I put off a few things - it's all come back to bite me in the termination of the lower intestine. This year Audrey is looking at colleges to attend, and it appears we're takeing the Spring Break to head to AZ and look at Tucson. If we don't make Aeries - well, back to stories about the property. Okay this is a little long, but I thought you all would like to hear it. I came across this in the CD booklet of a Dead CD I recently bought..."In 1965 a Bay area wild bunch burst forth onto the music scene. Beginning as The Warlocks, the Grateful Dead would evolve into one of our most significant rock bands-a genuine contribution to American pop culture. The Dead started off as psychedelic saddle tramps, scruffy and somewhat intimidating. In reality, their motives were pure and sweet. They were gentle and at one with their fans. The Grateful Dead were an artistic and social endeavor extending through a fan base that became a worldwide network, trading tapes and swapping stories. Some even quit their jobs to follow the Dead on the road. The fact that this band played at the pyramids in Egypt is a testament to their adventurous spirit, not to mention a feat of global and spiritual diplomacy...There were many high points on the Dead trail. For myself and millions of fans, we seemed to be living for the next concert. It was a colorful, electric, mind-altering world. Just the band's name conjured up something gothic and mysterious. It was a blessing and a curse. To radio programmers, The Dead sounded gruesome, but for the "dedicated" it meant a trip down the Golden Road, one paved with good intentions and the vibe of the late '60s, early '70s. Their biker-mod look evolved into everyman's persona. It was your pals up there onstage-they knew us and played their asses off..." -James Austin

Just so you all know, the Tofanelli sisters went on a junket to Jekyll Island, Georgia, last week. Met in DC on Feb 21st (Bug and Carla got there a few days before) - hooked up with Page (who lives there) and Dani (who was interviewing there) and had a great dinner including PC's sister Colleen and daughter Erin. Then flew to Jacksonville and drove north to Jekyll (the scene of two spring breaks when in Bronxville High School back in the mid '60's, thus the venue selection) for four days. Great rounds of golf (our dad would have been so pleased), some tennis, and lots of martinis, wine, and beer. We did all FOM's proud. First time ever we've done a trip like this - just the three of us. Carla organized everything. Bug and I showed up. Hope we can do it again. And add the Mooseketeers! Love to all...as Aries XXXVI looms!!!

Ok and hello to all FOMs out there lurking in the ether. I've got a news flash
from the Hare household. Some of you have heard this bombshell - probably most
have not. After several years of thinking we were "done" after having our 2
boys, we recently thought, "ah, what the heck, let's shoot for 1 more and maybe
we'll get a girl to mix things up." Well, low and behold - Presto - Laura's
pregnant. But that's not all! We are talking TWINS!!! So we are apparently
going to skip #3 and immediately double the number of Rugrats in residence.
Laura is only about 11 weeks along, so we've got a ways to go but so far,
everything looks good and we are on track for mass chaos come August/September.
No info yet on whether we're talking about boys or girls ... but if I were a
betting man (and I have been know to be one on occasion), I'd bet the house on
2 more boys.... We are actively looking for names - Rotty is already on the
short list in honor of our boys' "favorite uncle" - but we'd accept additional
suggestions. One thing I know for sure - we need a new car.... Still trying to
figure out exactly how this happened - but let it be a lesson to all you out
there - IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU! Be afraid, be very afraid....

Hi FOMS, Just a short recap of the annual Older, Sandstress, Louise, and Bug get
together (alas, Bug was sick and could not make it--we missed her!). A raucous
time doing Thursday night at the boat at Shelter Island, Friday junking it in
OB (the Chenilles were born there!), picking up the Older and then to Ocean
Beach for great lobster and fish tacos and margaritas and wine and wine and
wine and wine. Back to the boat for bracelets, candles, Fifi, Moose headcovers,
bathrobes and sweatshirts and WINE and WINE and WINE. Saturday morning out on
the bay with the hair of the dog and breakfast and soaking up the So Cal sun
before heading out to do a gig at Casa Del Zorro. The Chenilles will probably
not be invited back!. Then burgers at Carlee's and off to Charlie's condo.
Sunday golf at BSCC (no wind, Aries people!-a gorgeous day) where the Older had
her best game ever and (with Moose's help?) sank a very difficult lots of break
uphill putt. It was evident that Sandstress had been listening to Muni's good
golfing advice cuz she was hitting the heck out of the ball. Moose also helped
Louise win the overall putting (thanks, Moose, won $3.50 and paid $27.00 in the
bar!!!). A few other memories: a stolen bottle of hotsauce, a new way to put on
lipstick, and a "poodle fix" for the Older. Thanks, Older and Sandstress for an
unforgettable few days, and keep the green light on! Louise

His name's Lou. Been a golfer for 50 years or so, and a fun guy. I hope you can

Okay all you FOM's and Aries-Wannabes, I want to set the record straight: I
thought the cop was a prostitutue.....No wait, wrong charge: There is
absolutely no truth to the rumor that the combined stress of the holidays past
and the Pre-Aries planning forced PC to take that tumble while skiing in
Jackson Hole. He didn't see that creek bed. Honest. So send your best wishes
his way while he laughs his way merrily through recuperation in the Heartland,
Dubuque, away from the lonesome plains of I-O-WAY. At least that's his version
of the "incident." Personally, I think he just couldn't take another Aries
planning session. The wimp. Patient and leg are doing fine, thanks to good
doctors and even better drugs. I just spoke with him on the phone, and promised

Twas the night before Christmas and under the spruce not a creature was stirring
not even the Moose. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes
that the spirit of Jeff would be there. The caddies were nestled all snug in
their sheds with visions of painted golf balls in their heads. And Ma in her
do-rag and I in my (Dodger's) cap sat down by the window for a pre-Christmas
rap. When what to my wondering eyes should appear but a green Volvo wagon
creeping up in first gear. With a spry impish driver it pulled to the curb. I
knew in a moment it must be St. Herb. More rapid than eagles his (golf)
coursers they came and he whistled and shouted each shot by its name. "On
slicer, on dicer, on bogey, on par. On birdie, on divot, on 19th Hole bar." His
droll little mouth was drawn up in a grin and I was so grateful he chose to
come in. He was cheerful and chatty, a right jolly old elf and I smiled 'cause
he looked so much like his old self. Was I scheming or dreaming? Just who was
that guy? Was it just wishful thinking? Did he really stop by? I poured us an
eggnog and stifled my doubt, letting funny fond memories of Jeff float about.
Laying a finger aside of his nose, he said, "You're my pal, but, man, work on
your prose." A wink of his eye and a twist of his hair soon gave me to know
Jeff would always be there. Amen. r, c, and a USA - Thursday, January 03, 2002

If he's 20, and you're...I'm confused. Bday greetings to RG and Bender. Two of
my favorite people. I'll have my students sing "Happy Birthday" to the both of
you tomorrow. I can just see it "...happy birthday dear Rat Girl &
Bender..." 8 year olds will believe anything you tell them. "Yes kids, she's
called Rat girl because she looks like a real rat with a long tail and eats
cheese and everything. And Bender is her evil side kick!" What fun! You two
enjoy your golf this weekend. Think of me freezing up here.

Oh my god! You GPNW-ers are just too much. Right now I'm finishing my Chef
BoyAreDee can of Beef Ravioli - always been my closet favorite - as Bri has a
board dinner tonight. But we'll party seriously this weekend, in NYC, while you
guys are out golfing, with theCrahans and Marinis. Let's compare notes on
Monday. HB to the Scorps (Bender, or course, and also Cullen, who on Oct 25th
turned 20 - yikes )! And well done Louise in escaping some real bad danger.
Love all you guys!! RG

Now how could she be 35 and still be a Senior in high school? I can't believe
they can insult you like that Nancy. Why dont you come up here this weekend and
we can make it a double birthday bash in beautiful North Bend. We'll get you
some fake ID and sneak you into the bars. Happy Birthday!!!

You two suck-ups! You know RG is a year older than us Hare.......41!!!! The
happiest of birthday wishes to both RG and Bender!!! As my little Napkin would
say, it's not a birthday unless there is cake - so live it up RG, and well
Bender...........we'll do just that on Saturday!!!

38? I'd say it's more like 35! A great big HB to RG from everyone in the GPNW!
Make sure the Can is extra-special-nice to you today, RG! You deserve it -
today and always! We'll raise several glasses in your honor out at NBender's
this weekend! And speaking of NBender, while you don't look as good as RG,
B-day greetings off in your general direction as well! Remember, you're not so
much getting older, just one step closer to shooting your age.... Louise, very
glad to hear you were not touched by the fires. A bit too close for comfort,
I'd say! Hope everyone is well....

Happy B'Day Rat Girl! Does she look 39? Hell no!! More like 38!! Great news
Louise - you and John have been in a lot of thoughts and the topic of many a
conversation here in the NW. Between Fabian and the San Diego fires our friends
have been facing some serious tribulations. My advice - come to North Bend and
play golf this Saturday.

Hi everyone, The warehouse escaped the fire, and so Moose's artwork and all of
the memorabilia from his life were both saved. The fire burned right down to
the building and then the wind changed direction and so all was saved. Might
Moose have had a hand in that? Love, Louise

Hi everyone, I just wrote a lengthly report on the So Cal fire crisis and
submitted it but guess it didn't make it in here. So here goes again: We are
still here and wearing masks whenever we go outside. 1,600 homes and an area
the size of Rhode Island has burned so far, but it is raining lightly today and
containment of the fires is expected within a couple of days. We personally
know quite a few people who lost their homes. A total tragedy. There is a
community spirit alive though and lots of help out there for the people who
lost everything. Moose's artwork and boxes of junque were in a warehouse in
Lakeside (by Barona Indian Reservation). I am not sure it is still there and
cannot get down to check it out because road is closed. This last few days has
proved that life indeed is fragile and we must make every day on our trip
count. Love, Louise

The problem has been tracked down and fixed. The Moose B. Free CyberCocktail
Party is back on the air.
By the way, in digging through a stack of email that I have in my deadgolf
folder, I ran across the email that marked the beginning of this web
site. It was entitled in Moose's oddly direct way "Uh Oh". I
don't think he would mind if I shared it now.
Al,
Bad news from my biopsy. Positive for throat carcinoma. I'm putting up a page
on my site for those who may be concerned.
